The new Elfwood has been a fun and enjoyable experience, but I've had a few small problems. Please tell me if it's just me or if any of you have seen similiar glitches.

1.) Whenever I get to a piece with a 2-4 rating, my browser won't let me view it when I click the button. Refresh doesn't work. I have to go out of my browser and go back in.

2.) Oftentimes when I go into the recent additions section, it will have me either log back in or will have me logged in as someone else! This morning I kept showing up (in the left hand corner where username and smiley are shown) as some guy from Finland. It would take me to my own extranet when I'd hit 'profile' however....

Also, the counter at the bottom reset. Anyone notice that?

Cheers!

I don't think that new feature of putting the keywords by stories on Wyverns is a good idea, especially in my case. What if folks decide to put a whooooooole lot of obscene stuff in their description, to show up on the search engine for gags?!

So what does everybody think about Elfwoods new look and features? I for one am very pleased with how it looks and works now. It was a long time ago it was so much fun wandering in the woods! Sure the are some minor bugs here and there but nothing that’s a cause of irritation.

So what’s everybody’s favourite new feature?

For me it’s adding favourites, now I don’t need to keep managing so many bookmarks in my browser anymore.

And finally a big thanks to Thomas for all his work!

This journal's been a little slow lately, so I'm hoping to get some sort of discussion going on.

What are the worst sci-fi/fantasy books you've ever read? Why? What was so bad about it--the characters, plot, writing, inconsistencies, or was the whole thing bad?

Any books you've read recently that you didn't care much for?

As for me, my least favorite sci-fi book (and probably my least favorite book ever) is Larry Niven's Ringworld. A few things were neat about it, like the Ringworld itself and some of the technologies. The characters, however, were crap (except the puppeteer, he was pretty cool). Niven rarely explains any of the technology used; he just expects us to believe they work. The way he treated his female characters pissed me off to no end. Of the two with noteable screen time (one who is barely legal and the other who is a whore) both have sex with the main character (who is a 200 year old man with the body of someone in their prime). Of the two main alien races, females are not intelligent and exist solely as baby making machines. I couldn't help but wonder if Niven was projecting something.
Also, 'tanj' is the stupidest swear word ever.

My least favorite fantasy book is Christopher Paolini's Eragon. It was like Paolini threw LotR, Star Wars and Pern into a blender, strained out any and all awesomeness and pasted the remaining muck into his book. I found his writing really generic and bland. It seems like he uses Big Words to impress us and not because the sentence calls for it.

Of the books I've read recently, Dean Koontz's Fear Nothing and Douglas Niles' Circle at Center irritated me.
I normally like Koontz, and Fear Nothing could have been a pretty good book, except he destroys it by stuffing it with endless inane details and metaphors (which is tries really hard to be witty at). I could also find no genuine personality flaws with the main character. The guy screamed Mary Sue.

Circle at Center was just annoying all around. There were no characters I really felt attached to and parts of the plot felt really forced. The only chapter I honestly enjoyed was the prologue (okay, technically not a chapter). Meh.

Okay, let's hear everyone else's!

For the last day or so, I've been trying to get into the most recent additions to elfwood, to leave some nice comments. Unfortunately, they start at October 3rd and go back from that. Anyone else having this problem?

If I do an image search with Google, Yahoo or Altavista, no results from Elfwood turn up. Any idea why?

I would like to put some names to the Favourites List, but don't know how. I tried via my Extranet page, but nothing is mentioned there. I also checked for a button on the gallery pages like 'Click here to add this member/artwork to your Fav list', but again, nothing. Am I blind or is this a feature still in the making?

I'm not sure why Thomas didn't post this, but I got the email and saw it on the main site, so I'm spreading the word: You can now open the extranet, log into the main site, and get lost in all the new features. ;-p
Have fun,
Steve H.

Hey everyone. I don't know if you noticed but after Thomas's announcement of the closing of Extranet; a lot of the moderators went to work to clear out the queue. From the time of the announcement  till Extranet closed (about 24 hours) there was about 90 tickets published from the queue. Along with a very large handful of first publishes that had to be rejected for quality and other reasons; but out of the queue, so the users could fix the problems and resubmit once the new Extranet is up and running. From the art queue, there was a whole 10 tickets, last I looked, left because of suspected copying. So to all those who worked hard at the queue, you did a great job and are appreciated. :)

Hello to you all. I have just joined the community but have been an Elfwood artist for a couple of years now. I mostly hope to get some advice and pointers while I'm here but for now a little question...

What would you say the best thing about joining Elfwood has been for you?

For me it has been a humbling experiance looking at established artists. It has inspired me to improve myself and aim for an illustration job in the future.

HI there :) I've joined this community, finally, after a long time of lurking. I'm pixidance on elfwood(along with everywhere else on the internet)

I love browsing through and seeing all the creative art.

I've been trying to update my user info page, and it doesn't seem to ever update(Yes, I'm clicking the save info button at the bottom) Maybe I'm just incompetent, but I was curious if anyone could give me any pointers?

If this isn't the right place to post this, I apologize.

One time I was browsing through Elfwood and I saw this AMAZING drawing. The background had a picture of a beach that an artist had used one of those Waccom tablet thingies to draw characters over. One of the characters was a 6 foot tall blue kittycat woman who looked like one of those sports team mascots, but instead of wearing a jersey, she was wearing a hot pink thong bikini. Next to her stood a hawt barbarian warrior wearing nothing but shorts pulled all the way up to the bottoms of his big floppy man-boobies. Kind of like this:

If anyone could help me find this picture, I would be very grateful. Life is just not worth living without that kind of awesome.

There was once a drawing on Elfwood that pictured an all black background, and there was a mage sitting in an indian-style position, he was holding a staff that had a glow coming off of the top of it, and everything that was lit up by the staff was given a blue hue. I loved that drawing, but I've lost the link to it sadly. :( Anyone know what it is, have a link to it, or know what I could search for to find it?
